Consultation has concluded

On April 8, 2022, WestJet Airlines Ltd. and Sunwing Travel Group notified the Minister of Transport that WestJet proposes to acquire Sunwing Vacations and Sunwing Airlines.

On May 19, 2022, the Minister decided that the proposed acquisition raises public interest issues related to national transportation, and directed Transport Canada to begin a public interest assessment. The assessment will include input from the Commissioner of Competition, who will look at how the acquisition would impact competition in the air sector.

A public consultation is a key part of the public interest assessment. Canadians are invited to share their views on the proposed acquisition. There are two ways to participate:

  • Join the discussion forum via the “Have Your Say” tab
  • Send a written submission via the “Submissions” tab

NOTE: Written submissions may be provided to the proponents to the proposed transaction and may be made public, with an option to withhold confidential/commercially sensitive information. Any confidential or commercially sensitive information should be clearly identified, and you may also note if you prefer your submission to not be shared or made public.

Please read our Frequently Asked Questions for more information on the assessment process, and then have your say.
