2021 Viewpoint: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

2021 Viewpoint Diversity Equity and Inclusion Hero

HR.com's HR Research Institute and Salary.com conducted a study of HR professionals and employees to examine and compare the perceptions of each group to understand and assess the state of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) in the workplace and to help employers make progress in DE&I initiatives and workforce equity initiatives.

Among the findings were insights into perceptions on pay equity. The survey found that HR professionals are more likely to have rose-colored glasses when looking at the current state of pay equity in their organization compared to employees. Just over half of surveyed employees (53%) say they are paid equitably or believe their peers are. A larger proportion of HR professionals (66%) believe their peers are paid equitably. Also of note: while pay equity is a fundamental element of the employer-employee relationship, over 40% of employees said their employer is not dedicated to closing pay gaps.

Respondents also revealed the extent to which they believe discrimination occurs in the workplace, the most common types of discrimination they witness or experience, and the level to which employees feel comfortable reporting it.
