Who is she?

Life, love, and lament are the introspective themes of Jessica Spurrell’s music. Drawing inspiration from folk and rock styles, she combines warm, eclectic sounds with lyrics full of poetic feeling. Contemporary songwriter Adrienne Lenker and Laurel Canyon lady Judee Sill are among her strongest influences. Jessica’s upcoming record, A Blessing, A Pearl, explores adolescent heartache through striking prose, woodwinds, harp, strings, and synth.

An accomplished songwriter, Jessica is a recipient of the 2021 SOCAN Foundation’s Young Canadian Songwriters Award for her song, Bury Me. She plays with her band in Toronto venues such as Drom Taberna, The Tranzac Club, and The Cameron House. Jessica frequently performs in the bands of other artists and recently worked as the producer for Toronto songwriter Elisabeth Dorion’s EP Overachiever

Jessica has called many places home, including Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, and Germany. She enjoys making weird necklaces and reading Richard Sikken’s poetry.
