Preventing homelessness among domestic violence survivors in California

The threat of homelessness is a significant reason for survivors of domestic violence to stay in abusive relationships. Unstable housing and financial insecurity put survivors and children in difficult situations that compromise their safety and well-being at the cost of shelter. New research looks deeper at the intersection of homelessness and domestic violence to provide us with a clearer picture of what drives abuse and the role that housing insecurity plays for far too many families. Promising solutions include the expansion of California’s efforts in Domestic Violence Housing First, an innovative model that uses flexible cash assistance to prevent homelessness for domestic violence survivors.
