Floridians’ opinions on COVID-19 requirements and children getting vaccinated

Majority support proof of vaccination for cruise ship and airline passengers; Majority of parents supporting vaccination for their children

Masks in schools and vaccination among children

On the CDC's recommendation that all public school students, staff, and teachers wear masks in school, regardless of vaccination status, 66 percent of Floridians agree with it, while 30 percent disagree and 4 percent are not sure. 

On allowing parents to decide if their children should wear masks indoors at school, 51 percent of Floridians support it, 40 percent oppose and 9 percent are not sure.

Sixty one percent of parents of children between 12 and 18 years (n=131) say that their child has received at least one shot of the vaccine and 15 percent indicate they are planning to get their child vaccinated while 24% are not planning to get their child vaccinated.  That is, roughly 76 percent of the parents indicate that their children have either received at least one shot of the COVID-19 vaccine or plan to receive it, while 24 percent say they do not plan to get their children vaccinated.

If the FDA permits children between the ages of 6 and 11 years old to receive a COVID 19 vaccine, 85% of the parents of children between ages 6 and 11 years old (n=118) indicate that they would get their children vaccinated while 11% will not and 4 percent are not sure.

Vaccination Requirements

Floridians express of support for specific requirements to receive a COVID-19 vaccine: 

•  For universities requiring their students, 67 percent support while 29 percent oppose and 4 percent not sure;
• For businesses requiring their employees, 65 percent support while 30 percent oppose and 5 percent not sure.

When it comes to requiring proof of a COVID-19 vaccination: 

• For passengers on airlines, 68 percent support while 29 percent oppose and 4 percent not  sure;
• For passengers on cruise ships, 70 percent support while 25 percent oppose and 5 percent not sure;
• For attendees of large sports and entertainment events, 61 percent support while 33 percent oppose and 5 percent not sure;
• For dine-in customers of restaurants, 53 percent support while 40 percent oppose while 7 percent not sure;

Delta Variant and Vaccines 

A majority of Floridians (64%), say they are very concerned about the strain of COVID-19 called the Delta variant. 

Roughly, 8 in 10 Americans (84 percent) say that they have either received a COVID-19 vaccine or plan to receive it, while 6 percent say they do not plan to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. 

Methodology:

Data was collected August 12-16, 2021 using a blended mode of n=183 mobile responses, and n=317 landline respondents by IVR with both cell and landline samples provided by Aristotle, Inc. The total sample size is n= 500, +/-4.38%. Data was weighted based on gender, age, education and ethnicity.
