$15.65 Million Arizona Mansion Breaks Price Records

The 14,000-square-foot home reportedly sold to a tech executive

A Phoenix shipping mogul has sold his newly built home in the ritzy Paradise Valley neighborhood for $15.65 million—making it the most expensive house ever sold in Arizona, according to the broker and listing records.

The seller, Gary Knight, vice chairman of the board at Knight-Swift Transportation, and his wife, Wendy, bought the five-acre lot underlying the mansion in 2006 for $3.95 million and completed the estate in 2011, property records show.

Luxury agent Joan Levinson of Realty ONE Group says it was a record transaction. Property data on listing sites Zillow and Redfin appear to confirm that there hasn’t been a more expensive residential sale recorded in the southwestern state.

The four-bedroom, eight-bathroom home spans some 14,200 square feet and encompasses all the amenities befitting a home of that price point, Ms. Levinson said.

There are electronicdisappearing glass doors, some reaching 14-feet high, that help blend the indoors and outdoors, she said. The previous owners also built a media room with dramatic views over the surrounding rock outcroppings; though a projector screen drops down to cover the windows while movies play.

"It’s a fabulous contemporary home with beautiful views of Camelback Mountain and Phoenix," she said.

A gated drive leads to the main house, which boasts a pool and spa, according to aerial photos of the home. The interiors include multiple fireplaces and a mixture of stone and hardwood floors, according to the listing.

Ms. Levinson represented both the buyer and seller in the transaction—though she declined to discuss either party.

The buyer was reportedly tech CEO Steve Sanghi, head of Microchip Technology. Mr. Sanghi did not immediately return request for comment.

A source close to the transaction, who did not want to be identified, confirmed Mr. Sanghi was the buyer.
