Through the Bell-Graham Boeckh Foundation partnership, #BellLetsTalk is proud to join the Government of Nova Scotia and other philanthropic and community partners to support young people in seven Nova Scotia communities. This new initiative will provide young people in NS with access to free mental health and addictions services closer to home! Learn more below about how Integrated Youth Services (IYS) hubs will help youth and their caregivers get the help they need, when and where they need it. Together we’re creating real change in mental health.
Yesterday marked an exciting day for Nova Scotians, with seven community-run Integrated Youth Services sites announced across the province. IYS provides walk-in access to mental health, addictions, recreation, and social services for youth ages 12-25 and their caregivers. All of this is delivered within one location in their home communities. IYS bridges the gap for those waiting for hospital services and transitioning back home following intensive treatment or programs. IWK Health is proud to lead the development of IYS sites in collaboration with youth, caregivers, government, community organizations, and philanthropic partners. Thank you to IWK Foundation, Medavie Foundation, the Bell-Graham Boeckh Foundation Partnership, and the Province of Nova Scotia for your investment in youth who need your support most. As proud supporters, we celebrate Canadian Red Cross Month. From disaster response to community support, Canadian Red Cross teams and volunteers empower resilience and support the mental health and well-being of Canadians through programs like Friendly Calls. Learn more about how they are creating real change in our communities below. #RedCrossMonth #BellLetsTalk
Last month, Atlantic Canada was hit by its heaviest snowfall in more than two decades. Thousands of people were snowed into their homes and had to deal with power outages and disruptions to essential services. Within 12 hours, our Friendly Calls team reached out to more than 120 program participants in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island to check on their physical wellness and emotional well-being. Red Crossers asked whether participants had adequate water, food, warmth, and prescriptions if conditions became worse. They also collaborated with them on how to manage feelings of anxiety and concern about the storm with effective strategies such as reaching out to neighbours and listening to music. “Your phone call was everything to me and I am so grateful.” - Friendly calls participant.
