Innovation For Equity to Host 2024 Annual HBCU EdTech Summit and Career Fair at Howard University on February 7th – 8th

Multidisciplinary Leaders and HBCU Students Set to Convene in Washington, D.C., to Chart EdTech’s Promising Future

Washington, D.C. (February 5, 2024) – Innovation For Equity (IFE), a powerful network of Black leaders and allies across the education ecosystem committed to improving life outcomes for Black learners of all ages, is excited to announce its highly anticipated HBCU EdTech Summit and Career Fair. Scheduled to take place on February 7th – 8th on the historic campus of Howard University, this event aims to bring together multidisciplinary leaders from the education ecosystem, alongside students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

Under the theme of “EdTech in 3D,” the convening will feature inspiring keynotes, think tanks, and panels exploring three critical dimensions of EdTech: digital transformation; diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB); and data-driven decision-making and assessment. In keeping with IFE’s core strategy of cultivating Black leadership in education, the summit will include an in-person EdTech Career/Networking Fair for college and university students from HBCUs and Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs) in the DMV area, along with recent alumni. Additionally, attendees will have the unique opportunity to explore a curated gallery of images from the Black History & Culture Collection and the HBCU Collection, thanks to a special collaboration with Getty Images.

Dr. Dawn G. Williams, Dean of Howard’s School of Education, highlighted the transformative impact of events like these on HBCUs, stating, “The HBCU EdTech Summit and Career Fair plays a pivotal role in advancing Howard University’s commitment to innovation and equity. This convening not only amplifies the voice of HBCUs in the evolving landscape of EdTech but also provides an invaluable platform for our students to engage with industry leaders.”

At the summit, IFE will also honor outstanding Black education leaders from across career stages who have leveraged innovation to improve outcomes for Black learners. The Rising Star Award will be presented to Jehron Petty, Founder and CEO of ColorStake; the Advancing Equity Award to Marlon Lindsay, Founder and CEO of 21stCentEd; and a special award will honor a leader for their deep contributions to EdTech and the broader education field.

Angela Romans, Executive Director of IFE, expressed her enthusiasm for the event, stating, “We are thrilled to host this one-of-a-kind convening. The energy and excitement surrounding the Summit reflect our commitment to creating meaningful connections for current and aspiring leaders and driving positive change in the education landscape. It’s a truly special moment for the IFE family and for advancing our mission and the field.”

Generous support from sponsors, including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, HMH, Heinemann, Cambium Learning Group, Curriculum Associates, EdMentum, Knowledge Leaders, Lumina Foundation, SRI Executive, and Vistria Group makes this summit possible.
