The Meat Institute’s sustainability framework has been developed through extensive consultation with members, sustainability experts, and across the supply chain. The Meat Institute will measure impact and verify progress toward ambitious targets.

Sustainable dairy

The U.S. dairy industry has committed to achieving GHG neutrality or better by 2050, further building on U.S. dairy’s achievements reducing dairy farm greenhouse gas emissions that are already the lowest in the world.1

Sustainable beef

The U.S. Roundtable for Sustainable Beef (USRSB) is a multi-stakeholder initiative developed to advance, support and communicate continuous improvement in sustainability of the U.S. beef value chain to ensure the U.S. beef value chain is the trusted global leader in environmentally sound, socially responsible and economically viable beef.

Sustainable pork

Developed by pig farmers and operated by the National Pork Board, the National Pork Producers Council and the state organizations representing pig farmers, the We Care Commitment puts sustainability and continuous improvement at the core of delivering the safest, highest quality pork supply in the world.

Sustainable animal feed

The U.S. animal feed industry is committed to optimizing the use of energy and natural resources, innovating to enhance the precision of animal nutrition programs, providing consumers and policymakers better understanding and appreciation of food production, and supporting local communities.

Sustainable Corn

U.S. corn farmers are committed to continuous improvement in the production of corn, a versatile crop providing abundant high-quality food, feed, renewable energy, biobased products, and ecosystem services. As stewards of the land, we understand the responsibility we have for creating a more environmentally and economically sustainable world for future generations with transparency and through continued advances and efficiencies in land, water and energy use.

Sustainable soy

The vast majority of U.S. soybean farmers follow the conservation regulations and farming practices outlined in the U.S. Soybean Sustainability Protocol. By 2025, U.S. soybean farmers aim - among other goals - to reduce soil erosion by an additional 25%, increase energy use efficiency by 10%, and reduce total greenhouse gas emissions by 10%.

Sustainable Poultry

The U.S. Roundtable for Sustainable Poultry & Eggs (US-RSPE) is currently hosting a public comment period on its sustainability framework. The US-RSPE framework is designed specifically for the full value chains of chicken, turkey and eggs. We encourage constructive feedback on this framework as well to drive continuous improvement and sustainability throughout the animal protein industry
