About Us
IAQS is a not-for profit society which aims to do more than provide technical science-based solutions.
We aim to connect, influence, and educate, bringing together committed and knowledgeable people worldwide, who can make a difference in the area of indoor air quality and to broadcast the results of our work to as wide an audience as possible.
Knowledge is the key to wisdom and wisdom is the precursor to action – action that will in the long-term improve indoor air quality, and make millions of lives healthier, happier and longer.
Who we are
A network of International experts, both individuals and organisations who have a stake or interest in indoor air quality.
IAQS is registered as a not-for-profit organisation which aims to develop an international network to influence and educate the debate on tackling the problems caused by bad indoor air quality.

The Association will support its purposes by :
LINKING | Public Authorities, Experts, Hospital & Healthcare professionals, non-healthcare professionals, regulators and other stakeholders.
ORGANISING | Meetings, conferences & seminars on air quality.
PUBLISHING | In the fields of professional and scientific practice. Increasing scientific, evidence-based literature in the field of IAQ.
TRAINING | Developing and organising training & certification programmes to support healthcare, and infection prevention specialists for use in different geographical regions.
ADVOCATING | For better healthcare and non-healthcare environmental hygiene policies and patient care.
PARTNERING | With like-minded Associations to pursue all IAQS goals.
NETWORKING | Facilitating the creation of networks & various platforms to exchange information.
ENCOURAGING | Fostering research & education activities on airborne contamination all in the broadest sense of the therm.

Prof. dr. Daniel BONN
CHAIR OF THE STEERING COMMITTEE
Prof. Dr. Daniel Bonn is the acting Director of the van der Waals-Zeeman Institute for experimental physics. of the University of Amsterdam. He is also Group Leader of the Complex Fluids Group, where about 60 researchers study the flow behavior of simple and complex fluids and solids. Before coming to Amsterdam, he was a CNRS research director at the prestigious Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris, where he led the Complex Fluids group for many years. He published more than 300 papers on wetting phenomena, complex fluids, hydrodynamics, mechanics, triblogy and the statistical mechanics of glasses. Bonn is involved in a large number of industrial collaborations such as with Michelin, SKF and Unilever, Shell, DSM, Akzo Nobel, ASML etc. Bonn is also co-founder of the successful agro-food startup company GreenA that just received a Round A investment from a venture capital firm and now employs several people. His current research interests cover tribology, complex fluid rheology, hydrodynamic instabilities and of late the aerosol spreading of the Coronavirus. Prof. dr. Philomena BLUYSSEN

Prof. dr. Philomena M. Bluyssen received her MSc in 1986 at the Technical University of Eindhoven, and in 1990 her PhD at the Technical University of Denmark with a thesis on ‘Air quality evaluated by a trained panel’. After working for more than twenty years as researcher with TNO, where she coordinated among others several European projects on optimisation of Indoor environment quality and energy use, she was appointed full Professor Indoor Environment in 2012 at the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, of the Delft University of Technology in Delft. At the TU Delft she initiated the SenseLab, a semi-lab environment sponsored by 25 companies and organisations, in which she recently performed research on airborne transmission of exhaled aerosols. In 2019 Bluyssen was appointed Visiting Professor at Feng Chia University in Taichung, Taiwan. Bluyssen is fellow of the International Society of Indoor Air Quality and Climate (ISIAQ). She has contributed and/or authored to more than 300 publications, and has been invited as guest, distinguished or keynote lecturer at several conferences and universities. For ‘The Indoor Environment Handbook: How to make buildings healthy and comfortable’, she received the prestigious Choice Outstanding Academic Titles of 2010 Award.’ Her book ‘The Healthy Indoor Environment – How to assess occupants’ wellbeing in buildings’ received the IDEC 2016 Book Award.
Prof. dr. Anthony FISHER

Tony is a Consultant Clinical Scientist in the UK National Health Service (NHS) and a Professor of Physics at the University of Liverpool, UK. He originally graduated in Medicine but continued his career in the Healthcare Sciences specialising in Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering. During the COVID-19 Pandemic, he was seconded to the Office of the Chief Scientific Officer NHS England (CSO) to support the Nightingale Hospitals and Mobile Processing Laboratories programmes where he developed an interest in methods to mitigate the airborne transmission of aerosolized virus particles. He received an MBE in 2017 for his services to Healthcare Science and was awarded the CSO’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2022.
Prof. dr. Duygu PERÇIN

Duygu PERÇİN graduated in Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine in Kayseri in 1992 and became specialist in Clinical Microbiology in 2000. Since then she has been involved in numerous research projects, national and international collaborations dealing with bacteriology, health care-associated infections, and sterilization.
Prof. Duygu PERÇİN is currently the Vice-Rector of Kutahya Health Sciences University and Head of Department of Medical Microbiology in Faculty of Medicine. She is also the Dean of Health Sciences Faculty in which every year hundreds of nurses, midwifes, and physiotherapists are graduated.
She is the President of DAS, Turkish Society for Disinfection Antisepsis Sterilization and Executive Committee Member of WFHSS (World Federation for Hospital Sterilization Sciences).
Prof. Duygu PERÇİN has contributed to a number of peer reviews, publications and book chapters in the field, and has been previously an invited speaker at several national and international scientific congresses.
Prof. dr. Axel KRAMER

Prof. Dr. med. habil. Axel Kramer was the Commissary Director of the Friedrich-Loeffler Institute of Medical Microbiology of the University Medicine Greifswald as well as Director of the Institute of Hygiene and Environmental Medicine of the University Medicine Greifswald before he went into retirement early this year. He is still active and associated with the institute. He has had a long lasting career in the field of hygiene and environmental science. He has helped found and worked with several organization and networks in healthcareHe is one of the founders of the German Society of Hospital Hygiene, has worked in the European interdisciplinary committees for infection control to name a few. He has written more than 500 papers in his lifetime and is a member of the editorial boards of several medical jourals such as, the International journal of hygiene and environmental medicine and the German Medical sciences, Hygiene and infection control.
Carole HALLAM, MSc, BSc, RN

Carole has been a registered nurse for over 40 years with 26 years as an Infection Control Nurse including Assistant Director of Infection Prevention and Control. Since September 2019, she has worked as an Independent Nurse Consultant providing infection prevention and vascular access advice, training and audit to a number of commercial companies and to NHS trusts.
Carole has held several roles with the Infection Prevention Society (IPS) including 6 years as a member of the Board including Honorary Secretary and England Country Lead. Working at IPS Board level has given her a national perspective on infection prevention and control. She was nominated and awarded honorary membership of the IPS in 2021.
Carole has published a number of journal articles including 8 publications during 2020/21. She is also a peer reviewer for three journals. Carole has presented at both National and International conferences on infection prevention and control topics and more recently has presented on webinars.
In addition, since 2005 Carole has provided voluntary support to hospitals in Romania. The support has included providing training and education, quality improvement projects, hand hygiene campaigns and the development of an infection control practical guidance book.
Carole has been awarded five prestigious awards, IPS Practitioner of the Year (2013) award, Nursing Times Award (2015) for the partnership working in Romania, British Journal of Nursing ‘Rising star in IV therapy’ award (2017), the COPAC award (2018) for sustained support to healthcare staff in Romania, and the IPS Brendan Moore Award in 2021.
Dr. AnneMarie EIJKELENBOOM

Dr. AnneMarie Eijkelenboom has been a licensed architect for over 25 years. She is determined to improve the occupants’ well-being through expansion and integration of academic knowledge and design practice. She has overseen the design of housing, healthcare buildings, and schools; both renovation and newly built.
Occupants have always taken part in these projects, being involved from the design phase on, to better understand and address their wellbeing. The occupants’ wellbeing also drives her academic research, that has evolved into a PhD-thesis on health and comfort of hospital workers before and during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Throughout the years, Eijkelenboom has given (keynote) presentations, workshops, and guest lectures about architecture and well-being on several universities, as well as for a broader national and international audience. As head of Research & Development at EGM architects she was responsible for research on healthcare buildings.
She has been member of several advisory groups, member of the scientific committee of CLIMA2022 conference, and initiated in collaboration with the national architecture museum, Healthscapes and EGM architects an exhibition on health in relation to architecture. Recently, she started an academic career track at Delft University of Technology, where she focuses on research and education on integrated and occupant-centred design.

Marianne KEMMER, MBA, PhD

Executive leader with a 20+ year background in global leadership within Associations, from administrative organization including fundraising and financial independent reporting. Set-up and launch of business projects with Ministries of Health, Governmental bodies, Universities etc, including hospital training and the development of educational programs worldwide. Strong connections and experience in international markets. Proven ability to partner with key stakeholders and build positive outcomes. Bridgebuilder. Educational background : MBA and PhD Economics / University of
Amsterdam.
Jon Green, MBA, MSc
DIRECTOR
A former NHS Hospital Trust CEO and UK Royal Naval Officer with a background in operational management, strategic planning and organisational development. Jon’s first career was in the UK military with a wide range of experience spanning operational sea going appointments, including combat tours, Central Government policy development, Junior Officer leadership training and Press and Media management. For much of the second half of his time in the military he worked in Intelligence both operational and strategically at home and abroad.
On leaving the RN he won a place on the NHS Executive fast track scheme and for the next 15 years working in operational management, executive and board leadership and transformation the hospital and community sectors of the NHS. He working in the London, Midlands and East of England regions with half of that time as a Trust Board member including as both a Chief Operating Officer of an acute and community trust and as CEO of a Hospital Trust.
On leaving the NHS at the beginning of 2020 Jon has operated as an independent consultant and advisor to a number of companies or on a number of programmes mostly within health and social care. He has also worked with innovation start ups and sustainability projects alongside his coaching and charity work, he is the vice chair of a UK national cancer charity.
Jon holds two masters degrees, an MBA from the Open University as well as an MSc in International Finance. He is also a qualified Executive Coach.
