If your CRA user ID and password have been revoked
You may have received a notification informing you that a user ID and password you use to access CRA sign-in services have been revoked. Below are steps on how to regain access to your CRA account.

Try these options before you call the CRA:
- Option 1
Use a different sign in method:
If you have one, you may be able to sign in by using a different CRA user ID and password, your banking sign in, or using a provincial partner to access your CRA account.
- Option 2
Register for a new CRA user ID:
You may need to Contact us to register for a new CRA user ID and password. When registering, ensure that your user ID is unique to your CRA account. To help avoid having your CRA user ID and password revoked in the future, your new user ID and password should:
- not be similar to one that was previously revoked
- not contain any parts of your name
Once registered, the CRA can mail you a security code to give you full access to online services. While waiting for your security code, you can still file your income tax return online using NETFILE certified software. Alternatively, you may be able to use Interac® document verification service to validate your identity and get full and immediate access to the CRA sign-in services.
How to regain access to your Careers candidate profile
If your CRA user ID and password for the Candidate Profile service have been revoked, you may complete a candidate profile recovery. This will allow the new CRA user ID and password you create during the recovery process to be linked to your existing candidate profile.

Ways to protect your personal information and improve cyber security
The CRA is committed to protecting the personal and tax information of Canadians and we have tools in place to monitor, detect, and investigate potential threats.
There are a number of actions you can take to protect your personal information and improve your cyber safety:
- Scan your computer for malware or other malicious programs. Having malware on your computer may compromise your data. Individuals are strongly encouraged to install software to scan for malware before changing any user IDs, passwords, or other sensitive information.
- Install software updates. Ensure that you install software updates as soon as they become available on your device. These updates address vulnerabilities and may prevent a data breach.
- Change your user IDs and passwords. We encourage you to make a practice of regularly changing your user IDs and passwords, as well as your security questions and answers.
- Use unique and complex passwords. Always use unique passwords for your CRA and online banking accounts. Do not reuse the same password for different accounts or systems.
- Monitor your account for suspicious activity. Check your online CRA accounts regularly for any suspicious activity. This includes unsolicited changes to your address and direct deposit information, or benefit applications made on your behalf.
