OUT TODAY.. HOW DOES IT WORK. ITS CALLED THE BOLA WRAP... TAKE A LOOK HERE. IT SHOOTS A CORD OUT THAT WRAPS AROUND THE PERSON. THEY FIRED IT SEVERAL TIMES, AND THE TEST SUBJECTS SAY IT WAS PAIN FREE. HERE'S ANOTHER LOOK AT THE VIDEO. "one, two, three" WHEN THE OFFICER FIRES IT, THE CARTRIDGE SHOOTS OUT A WRAP MADE OF KEVLAR. YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO AIM FOR THEIR ARMS OR LEGS TO STOP THE SUSPECT FROM RUNNING AWAY OR FIGHTING BACK. THE POLICE CHIEF IN ELKINS SAYS THIS COULD HELP OFFICERS WHEN DEALING WITH A PERSON IN THE MIDDLE OF A MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS. "in the media you see officers having to use taser or pain devices but this is another tool we can use, not having to use pain. to help somebody. catch somebody or take them to the hospital." THE TECHNOLOGY IS BEING USED BY DEPARTMENTS AROUND THE COUNTRY. SEVERAL DEPARTMENTS WERE AT THIS DEMO TODAY, INCLUDING FAYETTEVILLE, ELKINS AND UNIVERSITY POLICE. AND THEY SAY THEY'RE IN THE FIRST STAGES OF SEEING HOW IT WORKS AND IF THE BOLA WRAPS CAN FIT IN THEIR BUDGET

Several Northwest Arkansas Law Enforcement agenices watched demonstration of new restraint tool. The BolaWrap is a handheld remote that shoots out an 8-foot Kevlar-made cord that wraps around a person’s legs, arms, and waists multiple times. The tool is used to help deescalate police encounters, especially during a mental crisis.A representative of Wrap Technologies says the BolaWrap tool is painless and a "game-changer" for law encorcement. Elkins Police Chief Bryan Watts said that his department is looking into purchasing some devices. "Sometimes, in the media, you see officers having to use a taser or pain devices; but, this is another tool we can use, not having to inflict pain in order to help somebody, catch somebody or take them to the hospital."
