Northwest Arknasas law enforcement test out new BolaWrap restraint tool
Several Northwest Arkansas Law Enforcement agenices watched demonstration of new restraint tool.
The BolaWrap is a handheld remote that shoots out an 8-foot Kevlar-made cord that wraps around a person’s legs, arms, and waists multiple times.
The tool is used to help deescalate police encounters, especially during a mental crisis.
A representative of Wrap Technologies says the BolaWrap tool is painless and a "game-changer" for law encorcement.
Elkins Police Chief Bryan Watts said that his department is looking into purchasing some devices.
"Sometimes, in the media, you see officers having to use a taser or pain devices; but, this is another tool we can use, not having to inflict pain in order to help somebody, catch somebody or take them to the hospital."
