Michael Barry

Chief Communications Officer

Michael F. Barry is Chief Communications Officer, and the Head of Media Relations and Public Affairs, at the Insurance Information Institute (Triple-I).   In this role, Mr. Barry develops strategic communications for the Triple-I. and serves as a spokesperson for the institute. Moreover, Mr. Barry provides insurance information to a wide array of the institute's stakeholders, including media, member companies, regulators, legislators and the general public, who have come to rely on the Triple-I.'s expertise and analysis.   Mr. Barry came to the Triple-I. in 2006 from the New York State Insurance Department, where he had served since 2004 as the agency's director of Public Affairs. He oversaw all of the department's communications functions and reported to New York's Superintendent of Insurance, Howard Mills. Before joining the Department of Insurance, he was Corporate Communications manager at The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) between 1998 and 2003, and Public Information officer for the New York State Banking Department (1996-1998). Mr. Barry was a member of the board of trustees between 2006 and 2012 at Briarcliffe College, which had a student body of more than 3,000 on three campuses in Bethpage, Long Island City, and Patchogue, NY. He is also a member of the board of directors at Irish-Americans in Government, a Long Island-based charitable group which consists of current and former municipal employees. A former weekly newspaper editor, Mr. Barry was, early in his career, the Public Information officer for the Town of North Hempstead in Nassau County, Long Island and an elected member of the Village of Manorhaven's board of trustees in Port Washington, NY. He holds a B.A. in Communications from Fordham University.
