The University is now an official member of Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) research group at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, Switzerland, as announced last week.

Professor Manuch Soleimani from the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering led the successful bid for our University to become a CMS partner institute.

The University of Bath is now one of a select few UK institutes involved in CERN CMS, one of the world’s biggest particle physics detectors, situated 100 meters underground.

The bid was approved by the CMS board and current CMS members in their February board meeting.

Professor Soleimani said of the partnership: “This brings great opportunity for our University to be involved in research developing next generation of detectors, strengthening UK's involvement, as well as offering great opportunities for our undergraduate and postgraduate students, which will come with our membership.”
