To celebrate Pathways 25th Anniversary, please join leaders of our community and educators as they talk about substance abuse and mental health in our youth and community. There are a variety of sessions you can choose from. Please see the full list of topics below.

The event includes two educational sessions and a panel lunch moderated by Keith Mills. Mr. Mills is a TV/radio host and member of the Baltimore Ravens Broadcast Team.

Lunch will be provided.

Session One Class Offerings:

  • The Real Truth about the Internet and Social Media Use
    Wes Adams–State’s Attorney for Anne Arundel County
    Carol Parreco–Director of Community Outreach, Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney Office

    This session will cover the following:
    --- Identify and explain popular social media websites.
    ---Understand the role social media plays in adolescent decision making.
    ---Examine the connection of social media usage and adolescent drug use.

  • Pressures Faced by Youth Athletes
    Dr. Melissa Wellner, MD–Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, Anne Arundel Medical Group Mental Health Specialists

    Amanda Larkins–Prevention Educator

    Speakers will review the stressors of youth athletics in today’s society, the impact of stressors on an athlete’s mental health and possible substance use, and review helpful coaching and parenting methods.
  • Narcan Training and Hope Act Overview
    Daniel Watkins, BSN, RN Nurse Manager at Pathways

    Learn what causes an overdose, how to recognize an overdose and how to respond to an overdose. Attendees will receive a certificate to take to their pharmacy to receive Narcan without a prescription. Every insurance company is different, to find out your co-pay please contact your insurance company.

  • Anne Arundel County Crisis Response: Effective Collaboration During Crisis
    Jen Corbin–Director, Anne Arundel County Crisis Response System

    Learn about the Crisis Response System, also known as the “Warmline,” and its partnerships throughout Anne Arundel County. Ms. Corbin will share program success and areas of need.

  • What’s Going On with Our Teens?

    In this session, the speakers will review current youth mental health and substance use statistics, updates on youth drug and alcohol street names and lingo, and provide an overview of possible risk factors for co-occurring disorders. The session will also include ample time for a Q & A session with the speakers.

  • So, Have You Heard There’s an Opioid Crisis?
    Amanda Chipko–Nurse Practitioner, Pain Management Service, Anne Arundel Medical Center

    Individuals will have a better understanding of appropriate pain management, the risks of opioid treatment, and where to find addiction resources.

Lunch Panelists:

  • Moderator: Keith Mills, as part of the Ravens Broadcast Team, Keith hosts Ravens programming on WBAL-TV 11 and WBAL Plus, and he hosts radio shows on WBAL 1090 AM and 98 Rock. Mr. Mills is also a recovering opioid addict.

  • Ross Passman, Major for Anne Arundel County Police. A 25 year veteran, he is currerntly the Commander of the Bureau of Operations and Investigations.

  • Lisa Hillman, author of "Secret No More: A True Story of Hope for Parent with an Addicted Child” and former chief development officer and senior vice president of Anne Arundel Medical Center.

  • Tracey Myers-Preston, of the Maryland Addictions Disorders Council (MADC), is a champion for efforts that place behavioral health as an integral component of public health. Tracey leads all of the Association's activities including operations and governance, sustainability, membership, public policy and advocacy and workforce development. Under Tracey's leadership she has positioned MADC as the go-to content expert, convener, and capacity builder for addiction-related healthcare.

  • Rebecca Black, Pathways Inpatient Supervisor. Rebecca works as a coach and consultant to the inpatient counselors and providing case work support. Additionally, she works directly with patients referred to Pathways as part of the county's Safe Stations program.

  • Nicholas Reglein, Former Pathways Patient, Nicholas is a recovering addict sharing his story to help others.

Attendees will receive a certificate of attendance that can be used to apply for CEU/CMEs. Up to 2.5 CEU’s pending.
