Overall violent crime is slightly down in the city of Cincinnati, according to the Cincinnati Police Department’s year-end report.According to the 2015 crime summary, overall violent crime was down 0.6 percent from 2014 and 20.7 percent since 2011. Violent crime is classified as homicide, rape, robbery and aggravated assault.Homicides showed an increase. In 2015, 71 homicides were reported in Cincinnati. Of those 71 homicides, 58 were gun-related, according to the report.Sixty-three homicides were reported in 2014.Shootings in Cincinnati soared. In 2015, 492 nonfatal shooting were reported in Cincinnati – that’s an average of 1.35 nonfatal shootings per day. Only 383 nonfatal shootings were reported in 2014, according to the report.City Manager Harry Black said gun violence and homicides will be the Cincinnati Police Department’s top focus in 2016.“New strategies are being developed to reduce crime and specifically violent crime in 2016,” he said in a statement to Mayor John Cranley and City Council. “Plans are being finalized and more information will soon be shared.” To view the entire year-end report, click here.
