A group of people gathered in downtown Roanoke Wednesday to voice their opinions about the proposed tax bills in Congress.

The protestors held a banner that read quote "Not one penny in tax cuts for the rich".

Indivisable Virginia organized the rally. According to Indivisible Virginia Organizer Freeda Cathcart, the speakers there spoke about the harm they believe the tax bill will have for senior citizens, disabled veterans, graduate students and the middle class.

Organizers say it was a non-partisan event to get the word out that they are not happy with the proposed tax bills.

"This will get the word out to people where they will be a voice in the community to our elected officials," said Yzavia Haney.

"Letting them know it is not going to be tolerated to only have the well-being of certain people and not all of us collectively."

Cathcart says more than 250,000 people signed a petition opposing the bills on NotOnePenny.org.
