American Marketing Association (AMA) Southern Indiana Chapter

The AMA Southern Indiana Chapter, formerly the USI Marketing Club, is a student-led organization dedicated to providing hands-on marketing experiences to students of all majors. These experiences include product and service branding, ideation (idea generation), networking with business professionals and project management in a collaborative environment. 

USI's chapter is a member of the American Marketing Association. Students have an opportunity to earn professional certifications, such as Professional Certified Marketer, as well as certifications in digital marketing, content marketing, management and sales. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in nationwide student competitions and participate in AMA conferences. In addition to these tremendous learning and growth opportunities, students who join USI’s Collegiate Chapter will be able to list their AMA membership on their resume, signaling their dedication and experience in marketing to employers.

Members of the Marketing Club have routinely been recognized for their success in events held by the Romain College of Business and in national competitions. These accolades can be attributed to the dedication of members and their constant drive to succeed.

APS Club, an IMA Student Chapter

The APS Club is a professional organization composed of accounting majors and others interested in accounting as a profession. The club is an official student chapter of the Institute Management Accountants (IMA), a national organization of professional accountants. The USI student chapter has received the Gold Award of Excellence on multiple occasions. The club is an affiliate of the Evansville Chapter of IMA.  As a member of the IMA, the club competes on a national level with other accounting clubs.

The objectives of the APS Club are:

  • Increase student knowledge of the accounting profession
  • Promote opportunities for student interaction with the local accounting community
  • Encourage a sense of professionalism and cohesion among accounting majors
  • Provide opportunities for social interaction of faculty and students

Meetings are held every other Thursday in BEC 0030 at 4:30 p.m. in conjunction with Beta Alpha Psi meetings.  Dues are $15 per semester.


Association for Computing Machinery

The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) brings together computing educators, researchers, and professionals to inspire dialogue, share resources, and address the field's challenges. As the world’s largest computing society and the provider of the Turing award, ACM strengthens the profession's collective voice through strong leadership, promotion of the highest standards, and recognition of technical excellence. ACM supports the professional growth of its members by providing opportunities for life‐long learning, career development, and professional networking.

The ACM Student Chapter provides unique opportunities for networking, mentoring and bonding over common interests. It provides support both within the student community and to local communities outside the institution. ACM at USI invites all computer enthusiasts to come join our chapter. In addition, we love collaborative work and invite all who feel they can contribute (any skill set: art, design, business, management, engineering, science, Math, and others).



Beta Alpha Psi*

Beta Alpha Psi is an honorary organization for financial information students and professionals. The primary objective of Beta Alpha Psi is to encourage and give recognition to scholastic and professional excellence in the business information field.

Benefits to members include:

  • National Recognition - membership in Beta Alpha Psi bring national recognition to your name;
  • Resume - being active in Beta Alpha Psi shows leadership abilities to employers; and
  • Career Knowledge - attending the Regional and National meetings helps to further knowledge in the careers of accounting, finance, and information systems majors.

Purpose:
Recognizing scholastic and professional excellence in the field of accounting with the provision of opportunities for the self-development and association among members and practicing business professionals: and encouragement of a sense of ethical, social, and public responsibility.

Statement of Objectives:
In addition to the objectives of the national society "to encourage and give recognition to scholastic and professional excellence in the field of accountancy", the petitioning chapter has established the following objectives.

  1. To provide opportunities, instill motivation, and expand knowledge encourage the self-development of our members.
  2. To promote, through fraternal activities, the association and networking of Accounting and Professional Services (APS) students and professional accountants.
  3. To promote a professional attitude among members and encourage participation of students and faculty in our professional and social activities.
  4. To attain Superior Chapter Status during and after our petitioning process.
  5. To submit quality graduate and undergraduate manuscript contest entries.
  6. To continue successful fund raising activities to support chapter activities and for transportation to the National and Regional Meeting.
  7. To provide voluntary income tax assistance to the community and provide other services to various school and community groups.
  8. To provide exposure to innovative accounting topics and careers through the use of technical programs and seminars that are not covered in our academic curriculum.
  9. To continue to inform area high school students of the opportunities available in the field of accounting, and to promote the collegiate study of accounting.
  10. To provide an understanding to students the importance and benefits of their continued education and their degree.

Eligibility:
A student considered for membership must: be an accounting, finance, or CIS major; have maintained a cumulative grade point average of at least a 3.0; and currently be of at least sophomore standing.

Beta Gamma Sigma*

Beta Gamma Sigma is the honor society recognizing outstanding academic achievements of students in business programs accredited by AACSB International -- the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

Membership in Beta Gamma Sigma is the highest recognition a business student anywhere in the world can receive in a business program accredited by AACSB International.

Upperclassmen and graduate students are invited to join based on class rank and achievement of specific cumulative grade point averages.

Mission:
The Mission of the International Honor Society Beta Gamma Sigma is to encourage and honor academic achievement in the study of business, to cultivate and celebrate leadership and professional excellence, to advance the values of the Society, and to serve its lifelong members.

Benefits to Members:

  • Lifelong Recognition--By accepting membership in Beta Gamma Sigma, students receive lifetime recognition for their outstanding academic achievements and potential for leadership in the area of business.
  • Student Scholarship Program--Beta Gamma Sigma members are eligible to compete for the Society's annual scholarship awards.

Eligibility:
Only those in the top 10% of the undergraduate or the top 20% of the master's programs may be honored by an invitation to membership.


Business Professionals of America

Our mission at Business Professionals of America is to develop and empower student leaders to discover their passion and change the world by creating unmatched opportunities in learning, professional growth and service.

As a co-curricular organization, Business Professionals of America has the ability to enhance student participation in professional, civic, service and social endeavors. Business Professionals of America members participate in these activities to accomplish their goals of self-improvement, leadership development, professionalism, community service, career development, public relations, student cooperation, safety and health.

With 45,000 members in over 1,800 chapters across 25 states and Puerto Rico, as well as an international presence in China, Haiti and Peru, BPA is an organization that supports business and information technology educators by offering co-curricular exercises based on national standards.

Omicron Delta Epsilon

Omicron Delta Epsilon (ODE) is an academic honor society that recognizes scholastic achievement in economics. Benefits of ODE membership include closer academic and professional relationships with faculty in economics and access to a publication outlet for promising undergraduate and graduate student papers in The American Economist, the Journal of Omicron Delta Epsilon.

Benefits for members include (1) upon election to the society by the department's faculty a lifetime membership fee is charged to each prospective member; and (2) in return, the member receives a membership card, a scroll, and a year's subscription to The American Economist.

To become a member of O.D.E., an undergraduate student must:

  1. complete 12 semester hours of economics courses;
  2. attain at least a “B” average in economics courses and an overall “B” average in all classes,
  3. and have class standing in the upper one-third.

Romain College of Business Student Advisory Board

The Romain College of Business Student Advisory Board provides support and advice on matters of interest to the College, its faculty, students, and external constituents.

Its purposes are:

  • To participate with and provide counsel to the Romain College of Business faculty and students regarding objectives, strategies, goals, curriculum development, problems and opportunities.
  • To promote and participate in appropriate business-faculty-student interaction activities and programs.
  • To provide an outlet for student ideas and address the needs of Romain College of Business students.
  • To advise the Dean on issues affecting students.
  • To assist in creating and promoting a positive image for, and understanding of, the College and its programs.

USI Economics Club

The USI Economics Club is a student-led organization for USI students majoring and minoring in economics. The objectives of the club are:

  1. To create and support a network of students of economics at USI
  2. To increase student understanding of careers in economics
  3. To offer a speaker series featuring business leaders from the Tri-State community
  4. To share career and internship opportunities in the area with the students
  5. To program career/business events where the students can interact with company representatives

USI HR Club

Romain College's student HR Club helps advise students with an interest in a career in Human Resources.

The club aims to:

  • Plan professional and social events for students to network with HR professionals
  • Educate students about careers in Human Resources
  • Help students obtain jobs in HR

USI Speaking Eagles Toastmasters

USI Speaking Eagles Toastmasters is a club for business students who desire to build their communication skills. Toastmasters is an international organization devoted to helping men and women learn the arts of speaking, listening, and thinking--vital skills that promote self-actualization and enhance leadership potential. Members learn and practice in a friendly, comfortable environment with people who are also there to become better communicators. Members learn to introduce speakers, give prepared speeches, conduct meetings, give impromptu talks, and perform many other roles. Constructive evaluation is at the heart of the Toastmasters learn-by-doing program.

The student Toastmasters club is supported by the Accounting Circle, an advisory board for accounting programs at USI. All student fees are paid by funds raised by the club or donated by the Accounting Circle.

Guests and new members are always welcome. Join us for our weekly meeting on Wednesdays (excluding summer) at 11 a.m. in BE3033.

This is a great opportunity for people to become more comfortable speaking in a supportive environment.
