2018 Empty Bowls Evansville sale returns to Sauced with more than 1,000 bowls

October 31, 2018

The 7th annual Empty Bowls Evansville charity sale will start at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 10 at Sauced restaurant, located at 1113 Parrett Street in downtown Evansville.

Locally organized by Alisa Holen, University of Southern Indiana associate professor of ceramics, Empty Bowls is a national non-profit organization that lends its name to any organization that wants to raise funds for hunger by making and selling ceramic bowls. For this year's event, Holen's students worked alongside many volunteer groups, including local civic groups, businesses, high schools and various USI student organizations and employees to produce more than 1,000 bowls.

These bowls will be on display at the sale and available to take home for a $10 donation, along with soup from Sauced and bread from Because Bread Bakery. All proceeds will be distributed to United Caring Services, Patchwork Central and House of Bread and Peace to counter local homelessness and provide food for the hungry.

In addition to the community-made bowls, this year's event will feature an expanded "Pro-Bowl" selection of artistic ceramics made by local noted artists, including Holen, David Rodenberg and Todd Matteson. These pieces will be higher priced with all proceeds being added to the community sale donations.
