The Harley Open 2024

Art Competition

Our biennial art competition returns in 2024, showcasing the best regional art in our award-winning gallery. Whether you’re a professional, a hobbyist, or just starting to make art – we want to see your work.

The Harley Open 2022 showed 125 pieces of art made by 118 different artists, all living and working within 100 miles of the gallery.

Will your artwork be on show in the 2024 Harley Open? Will you be one of our prize winners?

Artist Open Call

We are looking for 2D or 3D wall-based works, in any style or medium.

Entries are accepted by artists from within 100 miles of the gallery (as the crow flies), and made within the last 2 years.

You can enter up to two works, and entries cost £10 per work.

Entries

This opportunity is open to everyone living or working within a 100-mile radius of the Harley Foundation (S80 3LW).

Submissions close on 30 June 2024.

Entry to the Harley Open costs £10 per artwork, up to a maximum of two artworks.

Judging + Prizes

The Harley Open 2024 will be judged by Lisa Gee, Director of the Harley Foundation; Susan Sherrit, Gallery Manager; and guest judge Selina Skipwith, Independent Art Advisor.

Selina Skipwith

Selina Skipwith is an Independent Art Advisor and Curator. She was the former Director and Keeper of Art of The Fleming Collection 1996-2014, overseeing the creation of The Fleming-Wyfold Art Foundation, and The Fleming Collection gallery in Mayfair, which opened to the public in January 2002.

She has curated numerous art exhibitions in the UK and abroad, she writes and lectures regularly and advises a number of private and corporate clients. Skipwith is a member of the Association of Professional Art Advisors and is a Trustee of Wilhelmina Barns-Graham Trust.

Shortlisted entries will be contacted by 12 July 2024.

These artworks must be delivered to the Harley Foundation between 18 21 July 2024.

Successful entries will be announced on 24 July 2024.

Unsuccessful artworks must be collected from the Harley Foundation between 24 27 July 2024.

First prize awarded by the Harley Foundation: £2500.

Two runner-up prizes awarded by the Harley Foundation: £500 each.

More prizes TBC.

Prizewinners will be announced on 26 July at our exhibition opening event.

Exhibition

All successful entries will be hung using mirror plates during the exhibition. This is to ensure that artwork is exhibited in a professional manner and meets our security and health and safety policies.

Please contact info@harleyfoundation.org.uk if this is not possible for your piece.

If your artwork is for sale, please enter the price you want to receive on the submission form.

The Harley Foundation will then add commission at 30% plus VAT (on the commission) to give a total retail price.

If you do not wish to sell your work, please enter ‘NFS’ (Not for Sale) on the entry form.

Exhibited artworks must be collected between 15   20 October 2024.
