Orion's National Air Rifle League is one of the largest air rifle leagues in the world! Last year, 150 elite and developing teams from all over the nation competed virtually in our low-cost and meaningful competition from the comfort of their home ranges. Orion's Virtual Match Technology enables scores from each team to be merged online. Results will be listed live online on Orion's Result Center and within Orion's mobile app. Register your team today for the 2018 regular season to compete for a spot in the postseason tournament for the League's top teams!

League Structure

The League is structured into disciplines, conferences, and divisions. The two disciplines are Sporter air rifle and Precision air rifle. The Sporter discipline is made up of five conferences: (1) Army JROTC, (2) Marine Corps JROTC, (3) Navy JROTC, (4) Air Force JROTC, and (5) Jr. Rifle Clubs. The Precision Discipline has two conferences: (1) JROTC and (2) Jr. Rifle Clubs. Each conference has two divisions, Champions and Distinguished, which teams are placed into based on performance in previous competition.

A complete season has three parts: (1) a pre-season optional tournament, (2) an eight week six or seven game regular season, (3) and post-season matches or tournaments for the top-performing teams.

Sporter

Precision

Regular Season

All teams will compete in 7 games over the 8-week regular season in a series of win-loss matches. The regular season is scheduled dynamically so that teams compete against other teams with similar rankings throughout the season. During the regular season, teams will be ranked within their division and within their conference based on seasonal average and their win-loss record. The conference winners from the Champions division is based on the regular season rankings. The conference winners from the Distinguished division is based on a one-game postseason championship.

Post-Season

In the Sporter Champions Division, there are two postseason tournaments: (1) the Championship Tournament, which determines the league winner, and (2) the Invitational Tournament, which allows additional deserving teams to participate in the postseason. The Precision Champions Division has a single Championship Tournament to determine the league winner. All tournaments will include eight teams, are single-elimination, and will take place over three weeks.

In both the Sporter and Precision Distinguished Division, for each conference, there is a single postseason championship game to determine the conference winner.

Awards

To help encourage the development of young athletes and recognize top performers, The League seeks to provide as many awards as possible to deserving teams, including but not limited to.

Participation pin for each athlete.
League sticker for each athlete.
League poster for each participating team.
Engraved medals for each athlete participating with the team during the postseason.
A league banner for each team participating in the postseason.

Eligibility

All athletes and teams eligible under the National Three-Position Air Rifle Rules are eligible to compete. Each school or club may register one team in the Sporter league and one team in the Preicison league. A team must have four or more air rifle athletes with a coach from a single school or club. Registration is $85 per team this season. All athletes on your team may compete. In each game, only the top four scores will count towards the team total.
