National Self-Employed Association Releases Post-Election Entrepreneur Poll Ahead of Upcoming Small Business Saturday

Small Business Owners Want 116th Congress to Address Health Care, Fearful New Congress Could Have a Negative Impact on Tax Reform

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Ahead of this weekend’s Small Business Saturday, the National Association for the Self-Employed (NASE) today released the results of a new, post-2018 midterm election poll of entrepreneurs showing that small business owners want the 116th Congress to address health care and are fearful of the negative impact the new Congress could have on tax reform.

NASE, the nation’s leading advocate and resource for the self-employed and micro-business community, released the poll in advance of Small Business Saturday, a national day established to support small businesses across the country scheduled to take place this Saturday, November 24th.  NASE released the poll along with an online video promoting Small Business Saturday as part of the NASE Minute online video series.

The poll, conducted online and comprised of 445 small business owners from across the country commissioned by the Small Business Roundtable (SBR), a coalition of small business organizations including founding member NASE, was released during a policy discussion in the U.S. Congress.

“On Saturday millions of small business owners will take part in Small Business Saturday with a focus on delivering quality and service to customers against a backdrop of economic uncertainty and fear over rising health care costs,” said Keith Hall, NASE President and Chief Executive Officer.“Our new SBR post-election poll clearly demonstrates the need for the 116th Congress to immediately focus on fixing the Affordable Care Act and tackling health care affordability and access continuing to plague America’s entrepreneurs.”

Key findings of the Small Business Roundtable Commission 2018 Post-Midterm Election Poll, includes:

- A leading number – 31 percent – want the newly elected Congress to address health care; 15 percent want action on tax reform and simplification
- 50 percent believe the 116th Congress will hurt the impact of tax reform; 34 percent think it will have no impact
- 63 percent indicate the 116th Congress will have no impact on trade policy; 25 percent responded the next congress will hurt it
- 40 percent of respondents said that after the midterm elections they are feeling “less optimistic” about the outlook of the American economy

“It is critical for the 116th Congress to work across the aisle in a bipartisan way to help support our nation’s small business community.  Good solutions know no party and the millions of self-employed small business owners we represent want to see the same kind of collaborative, results-oriented action they employ to achieve business success coming from this new Congress,”concluded Hall.
