Aetna's Response to the Parkland Tragedy

Aetna's Response to the Parkland Tragedy

Like millions around the world, I was devastated to learn that 17 innocent people were killed on February 14 at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. This attack is only the latest example of a gun violence epidemic that affects the safety and well-being of our communities. In 2015, approximately 2,300 individuals between the ages of 5 and 24 died from cancer – but more than 7,000 individuals of the same age group died from a gun.

Experts agree that gun violence is a public health issue. Our current laws allow too many individuals to access weapons intended for battlefields while failing to keep firearms out of the hands of people who should not have them. I have long believed that corporations have a responsibility to advocate for important changes in our society, and on this issue, Aetna will not stand still.

Today, Aetna is donating $200,000 to support the March For Our Lives rally taking place in Washington, D.C., on March 24. This demonstration is being organized by the brave survivors of the Parkland tragedy who are taking action to ensure that future generations will not be subject to the same fear and violence that have invaded our schools and communities. I want to emphasize that our actions are not an indictment of responsible, legal gun owners. Instead, we are joining others who cannot sit by idly while mass shootings become a part of our everyday life.

Please join me in supporting these brave young women and men as they push for changes to build safer communities.

Great job, Aetna. However, your customer service is atrocious. The representatives on your behalf need to be consistent and know what they are talking about.

How about Aetna’s support of abortion? Be consistent. Not sure my company’s premiums should be used for political purposes. Reduce those so we can give YOUR policy holders better coverage.
