AFP to Manchin: Don’t Dilly-Dally, Confirm Kavanaugh!

Jul 31, 2018 by AFP

CHARLESTON, W. Va. – Americans for Prosperity-West Virginia (AFP-WV) today reacted to Senator Manchin’s meeting with President Trump’s highly-qualified nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court, Judge Brett Kavanaugh. AFP-WV has been the leading advocate for Judge Kavanaugh in the Mountain State and just last week spearheaded a coalition letter signed by West Virginia policy leaders such as U.S. Representatives David McKinley, Evan Jenkins, and Alex Mooney that urged Sen. Manchin to support Judge Kavanaugh.

AFP-WV State Director Jason Huffman issued the following statement:

“We hope Sen. Manchin gives Trump’s nominee the fair consideration he deserves and stays clear of the tactics used by some of his Senate colleagues who’d rather play beltway-style politics and deny their constituents an independent jurist who will defend the Constitution. West Virginians are united behind Kavanaugh and Sen. Manchin would be wise to listen to us. We urge Sen. Manchin to reject the obstructionist playbook of his beltway bosses by announcing his support for Judge Kavanaugh.”

Background:

AFP-WV and an influential coalition of lawmakers and organizations on Thursday sent a letter to Senator Joe Manchin urging him to support Judge Brett Kavanaugh. The letter signers represent a who’s who of West Virginian policy leaders on the federal and state level, including U.S. Representatives David McKinley, Evan Jenkins, and Alex Mooney. Since announcing a seven-figure commitment to paid advertising and grassroots engagement in support of Judge Kavanaugh’s confirmation, AFP has made 95,000 calls in West Virginia alone.

AFP-WV State Director Jason Huffman recently penned an op-ed for the Charleston Gazette-Mail, which can be read here.
