AFP-WV Applauds the Trump Administration on Nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh and Urges Swift Confirmation

Grassroots group will commit full capabilities in support of Judge Kavanaugh’s confirmation

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Americans for Prosperity-West Virginia (AFP-WV) on Monday applauded the Trump Administration for nominating Judge Kavanaugh to succeed Justice Anthony Kennedy on the Supreme Court of the United States. Kavanaugh was confirmed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit with bipartisan support. AFP will commit its full resources and permanent grassroots infrastructure to his confirmation.

“With the nomination of Judge Kavanaugh, President Trump has delivered a highly qualified nominee in the mold of Justice Gorsuch—a jurist who will defend the Constitution, interpret the law as written, and not legislate from the bench. Judge Kavanaugh knows that Americans don’t want an activist Supreme Court. The role of the court is to independently interpret the law, not to advance a particular political agenda or set policy,” said AFP-WV State Director Jason Huffman. “Our activists across the state are urging Sen. Manchin and Sen. Capito to swiftly confirm Judge Kavanaugh. And we stand ready to hold lawmakers accountable who foolishly choose to put partisan politics ahead of our country’s best interests.”

Background on Judge Brett Kavanaugh:

Brett Kavanaugh, a graduate of Yale Law School and former clerk to Justice Anthony Kennedy, received bipartisan support in 2006 for his confirmation to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. During his 12 years on the federal bench, Kavanaugh has demonstrated a commitment to the rule of law and is widely respected for his principled approach to interpreting the Constitution as written.

Americans for Prosperity will commit seven figures to paid advertising and grassroots engagement in support of Judge Kavanaugh confirmation. Door and phone scripts have already been deployed to each of the 36 AFP state chapters and a first round of mail and door hangers will be deployed in the coming weeks in Pennsylvania, Indiana, West Virginia, North Dakota, Florida, Missouri, Montana, Ohio, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Later this month, AFP will host events, tele-townhalls, and Facebook live conversations with key lawmakers about the proper role of the courts and the importance of confirming jurists who interpret the law as written.
