AFP: Chaves Makes Four

Momentum grows as county commissioners unanimously vote to make Chaves the fourth county in New Mexico to pass right-to-work

ROSWELL, N.M. – Americans for Prosperity-New Mexico (AFP-NM) on Monday applauded Chaves County commissioners for unanimously passing the right-to-work ordinance introduced by Commissioner T. Calder Ezzell Jr., making Chaves the fourth county in New Mexico to expand workers’ rights. Sandoval, Otero, and Lincoln counties have already passed similar right-to-work ordinances. AFP-NM has been at the forefront of the push for right-to-work policies in the state, having launched in 2017 the “New Jobs New Mexico” campaign, a multilayered grassroots campaign to educate citizens about the impact of right-to-work.

“New Mexico’s economy will remain grounded until we improve the economic climate for businesses and would-be employees. Communities across New Mexico should be free to improve their economic competitiveness, and employees should be free to choose whether or not to join a union,” said AFP-NM State Director Burly Cain. “The stellar show of support from the Chaves commissioners is proof the job-creating benefits of worker freedom policies is growing in popularity across the state.”

AFP-NM has been the most vocal advocate in the state for local governments to pass policies that empower New Mexico workers. Last September, AFP-NM launched the “New Jobs New Mexico” campaign – a robust grassroots, direct mail, and digital effort to educate citizens about the impact of right-to-work. AFP-NM first rallied in Sandoval County in August 2017, which passed Right-To-Work on January 19^th, 2018. AFP-NM then mobilized in Otero County, which passed right-to-work on April 12. Lincoln County followed on May 15. The group is committed to engaging across the state, county by county, to make New Mexico the next right-to-work success story.
