Jasmine Daya

Education

Jasmine graduated from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas in December 2001 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and a Bachelor of Science in Economics. She completed the Canadian Securities Course in 2004. Prior to commencing her undergraduate studies, Jasmine completed a Pre-college Summer program at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.

Jasmine graduated from Queen’s University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Laws. While at Queen’s, Jasmine was the recipient of the Reuben Wells Leonard prize in Business law and an active volunteer within the Queen’s Law community. During the Summer of 2003, Jasmine completed an International and Comparative Law Program through Tulane University that was hosted by McGill University.

After completion of the Bar Admissions Course and exams, Jasmine commenced her articles in 2005 and was admitted to the Law Society of Upper Canada in 2006. While continuing to practice as a full-time lawyer, Jasmine studied at Osgoode Hall graduating in 2009 with a Master of Laws.

In 2013, Jasmine received a Certificate from Harvard Law School for successful completion of the Negotiation course for lawyers and executives. In 2019, Jasmine received a Certificate from the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for successful completion of the Digital Marketing and Analytics course and in 2024, she received a Certificate in Artificial Intelligence from MIT.

Volunteer Work

Jasmine volunteered as Duty Counsel (civil litigation) at the Toronto courthouse for Pro Bono Law Ontario for years. She has also guest lectured for the Insurance Law and Torts Law courses at Queen’s University and for the Personal Injury course at Osgoode Hall. She served as a mentor to the grade 11 Law class at the Bishop Strachan School and also served as a mentor for the Toronto Lawyers Association.

Jasmine serves as the firm’s Articling Principal. She has served as a judge on Law Day for the OBA/OJEN high school mock trials and as a judge for the Fulford Debate for high school students.

Jasmine also mentors and provides placements at her firm for co-op students in high school, college and university. Jasmine derives great pleasure from inspiring young minds to aim high, work hard, set goals and achieve them.

Presentations

Jasmine has presented webinars for the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association. In “Personal Injury is more than Motor Vehicle Accidents” she discussed the civil law as it relates to cyberbullying and club/bar assaults. In “Equality, Diversity and Inclusion” she discussed the Law Society’s new continuing professional development requirement of all licensees in Ontario. Jasmine presented at the 2nd Motor Vehicle Litigation Summit on “Uninsured, Unidentified and Underinsured Coverage: Knowing Which Insurer to Sue”.

Speaking Engagements

Jasmine has enjoyed being a speaker at conferences and panels held by the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association, on Career Day at the Bishop Strachan School, at various events held by the Faculty of Law at Queen’s University, at the Earl Haig Secondary School Co-op Appreciation event, and at the Home Trust Women’s Day Symposium.

Jasmine was invited to speak on a panel for the Canadian Defence Lawyers Association, where she discussed the License Appeal Tribunal from a Plaintiff’s perspective and at an Insurance Defence law firm on various topics related to personal injury law. She was also invited to speak on a panel for the Toronto Lawyers Association on “How to Build a Book of Business as a New Lawyer”. Jasmine was invited to speak on a panel for the Canadian Women in Cybersecurity conference to discuss the current state of the law on cyberbullying. She was invited on a panel for the Toronto Lawyers Association to discuss “Virtual Court Appearances”. She was also invited on a panel for the Young Women in Law Association to discuss “Questioning your Career in Quarantine”.

Published Books

Jasmine is extremely committed to serving her clients as a lawyer however she also pursues her passions outside the office. She launched JD in the Kitchen which provides simple recipes, tips and tricks for balancing a busy lifestyle with making time for home cooked meals to enjoy with family and friends. Feel free to follow her on Instagram @jdinthekitchen. Jasmine’s first cookbook ‘Indian Appetizers & Chutneys’ is now available on JD in the Kitchen. As well as her two follow up cookbooks – ‘Sweet Indian Snacks’ and ‘Indian Snacks, Pickles, and Preserves.’

Jasmine also published her first fiction novel, Law Girl’s Bump in the Road, initially under the pen name ‘Leia London,’ which is currently available on Amazon. Jasmine chose to use a pen name to differentiate between her voice as a lawyer and that of a “chicklit” author.
