We are thrilled to announce the winner of our Viasat Beyond: Space UK STEM innovation competition – 16-year-old Ash Goldsmith from Merseyside! 👏🎉 His concept of a ‘housekeeping’ satellite that would launch into space before repairing, refueling or upgrading satellites and safely returning home, wowed judges The Royal Institution Director Katherine Mathieson, space influencer Camille Elizabeth Bergin, aka ‘The Galactic Gal’, Viasat’s VP of Space Systems Mark Dickinson, Delivery Director of the UK Ministry of Defence’s Skynet satellite system Steven Fisher, and Ray Fielding, Head of Space Sustainability at the UK Space Agency. VB:S invited Years 12 and 13 in the UK to submit their ideas for space sustainability. From over 1,200 entries, just five were invited to pitch their ideas to an esteemed panel of judges at our London HQ this week. All five finalists will also be invited to an all-expenses-paid trip to Viasat’s Sustainable Space Experience Week at our London office in July 2024.
