Melanoma is a dangerous and potentially deadly type of skin cancer that can metastasize (spread) to other parts of the body. Unlike most other cancers, melanoma can be seen on the skin. Checking the skin monthly is key to early detection and improving chances of survival.

The most common type of skin cancer, BCC accounts for roughly 75% of all non-melanoma skin cancers. While this form of cancer often grows slowly, when left untreated, can invade tissues below the skin and spread throughout the body.

cSCC is skin cancer that starts in the epidermis—cells making up the outer layer of our skin. It usually occurs after too much UV exposure by sun tanning or using tanning beds for long periods of time.

In addition to the more common melanomas, there are a number of rare melanomas that might affect the eye, appear under fingernails or on palms of the hands or soles of the feet.
